In April 2027, the renowned Dutch cartographer Abraham Ortelius (1527–1598) will celebrate the 500th anniversary of his birth. To mark the occasion, the Bavarian State Library will be exhibiting, alongside his magnum opus Theatrum orbis terrarum, significant treasures from its map collection that are connected to this work. Awaiting you in the treasure chambers are various magnificent editions of Ortelius’s Theatrum, as well as important precursors and models for it – all of them treasures that are rarely on display. We won’t reveal any more just yet.
